Description

As a subcontract to the Illinois Tollways’ Central Tri-State Tollway Project this contract scope consisted of Phase II civil engineering services for work tasks including the preparation of contract plans, engineering studies and other technical services. The scope of this contract was to replace and upgrade the existing congested roadway with a corridor that will accommodate a higher LOS while improving roadway safety elements.

Specifically, it included the replacement of extension of the existing Plainfield Road Bridge, a new configuration and widening of Plainfield Road, a new bridge with pedestrian walkways, and the relocation of Flagg Creek. It also included roadway drainage improvements, new bridge piers and retaining walls, and proposed clearing and grading.

Services Provided

d’Escoto, Inc. provided Phase II design support for the project. 3D modeling techniques were used to provide a quick and errorless method for creating grading plans, cross sections, and earthwork schedules. Specifically, d’Escoto, Inc. performed the following:
• Utilized MicroStation and Geopak to create 3D models of Plainfield Road and Flagg Creek and other roadway elements including retaining walls and bridge footings to aid in structural design and earthwork computations.
• Prepared contract plans including proposed roadway, removal, grading, and cross sections.
• Compiled the summary of quantities and calculated the cost estimate for the entire project.
