Phase II engineering services were required for the preparation of contract plans, specifications, and related permits for the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) between Dempster Street (M.P. 44.3) and Ballard Road (M.P. 44.6) in Des Plaines, Illinois. The work included the installation of revetment mats in the ditch line, maintenance of existing bioswale on the west side of I-294, and re-grading the existing access path. Coordination with the City of Des Plaines and the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) was included in the plans and specifications.
d’Escoto provided complete Phase II design support throughout the project including but not limited to the following services:
• Designed a 3D model using MicroStation, Geopak, and current Illinois Tollway standards.
• Provided compensatory storage calculations to ensure the floodplain volume stayed balanced.
• Researched specifications from vendors of revetment mats to ensure the path could structurally accommodate the required loads.
• Checked pay items against historical data to compile a cost estimate that was within 1% of the contractors bid.
• Implemented a fully electronic (Bluebeam) review procedure.
• Responded to RFI’s based on changes in site conditions.
