Package A included construction of pavement for both Taxiway J and Taxiway Z, as well as Tank Farm Road. Work included new taxiway construction and roadway construction. Coordination with the nearby fuel line construction project in the same roadway corridor was critical to the successful completion of this project.
Preparation work involved site and utility demolition, including clearing/grubbing. Sitework included general earthwork and embankment construction, grading, and temporary and final erosion control measures.
Airfield lighting and electrical infrastructure (ductbank and structures) scope included work for the common electrical ductbank (CED), and installing ComEd (CECO) support elements, including the transformer pads. Utility work also included connection to the watermain and AT&T service. Associated with this work, drainage structures for the site were required, as well as connection to the main site drainage network northwest of decommissioned Runway 15-33.
Package B started with site demolition, including clearing, grubbing, and utility removal. Earthwork, including grading, and the building up of embankments followed. Temporary and permanent erosion control measures were implemented, as well.
The utility infrastructure for this project involved the common and ComEd electrical ductbanks and structures for airfield power, including roadway lighting, and transformer pads were also included. In addition, AT&T service was installed during this project.
Significant linear footage of watermain was installed during this project. Large diameter pipe jacking and boring was required to run the 20-inch and 18-inch lines. Fire hydrant connections were also established. Constructing fuel lines in the same roadway corridor required coordination with other contracts. In addition, a new security check point was constructed including a prefabricated booth fitted with all required accessories and fiber connection to the OCC.
Our team provided a Contract Administrator and Resident Engineer for this project—providing managerial and clerical services to implement and enforce all applicable codes, standards, specifications, policies and procedures. With a full understanding of the project scope, plans and specifications, our team coordinated between the direct project assignment and other active program assignments.
