Overview

Client: Chicago Department of Transportation

Location: Chicago, Illinois

Description

The LaSalle/Congress Intermodal Transfer Center project built a new hub to serve the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) Blue Line and Metra’s LaSalle Street Station with connections to CTA bus lines via a bus turnaround at the southeast corner of Congress and Financial Place.

The transfer center creates a more convenient, safer connection between CTA and Metra ser-vice via an elevator and stairs to the Metra train platform. The structure includes a Machine Room, an Electrical Room, and washroom facilities. And the adjacent bus turnaround features covered bus shelters and bicycle racks nearby.

In addition to the main structure and bus turnaround, Financial Place was converted from a two-way street to a northbound one-way street, and traffic signals at Harrison Street and Financial Place were reconfigured to improve traffic flow despite more bus and pedestrian traffic.
