The Crawford project involved two phases of work. Phase I of work included the installation of 20” of steel pipe along Springfield Avenue, while keeping the existing 20” steel pipeline along Crawford and Pulaski Avenue live to continue service. Additionally, another phase was implemented to retire and remove/grout the existing 20” line along Crawford and Pulaski Avenue. The project included extending a new feed to a 6” vault south of Midlothian Turnpike and installing a new crossover to the 24” MOP main in the ComEd ROW just north of 142nd Street. It also included the retirement and removal/grouting of an existing 20” steel gas line along Crawford and Pulaski Avenue, replacing it with a 20” steel line along Springfield Avenue.
Installation included approximately 5’ of 24” pipe, 4600’ of 20” steel pipe, 155’ of 12” pipe, 15’ of 8” pipe, 620’ of 6” pipe and associated fittings. In addition, the project included the installation of (5) 20” line valves, and (1) 6” line valve. The proposed main was installed as designed using open cutting and conventional bore and horizontal directional drilling techniques. One conventional bore was used for the 6” installation, 12” installation, 20” Installation, and one horizontal directional drill was used for the 20” installation.
