Position Title
Resident Engineer - Aviation
Description

The Resident Engineer shall maintain and facilitate all functions and activities at all facets of a construction project from commencement to completion, and ensure all construction is in compliance with design specifications, completed on schedule, and is built to quality standards within the project budget. In understanding the critical nature of work within the Chicago Airport System, compliance to all FAA 139 regulations related to construction and safety shall be enforced by the Resident Engineer and the project team.

Responsibilities

POSITION FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises field staff and contractors on the site with responsibility for quality construction in accordance to the project plans and specifications
  • Responsible for the issuance of field orders, and approval of invoices, and payment applications which may include final payment
  • Prepare for pre-award and pre-construction meetings
  • Review and maintain the project schedule in collaboration with the Contractor and the CARE plus project team
  • Responsible for ensuring all required contract documentation and information is properly processed and understood by the Project Field Inspectors
  • Review and monitor staff time allowance and all approved overtime
  • Field staff coordination, ensure all required project documentation and information is forwarded to and understood by the project field inspectors
  • Work closely with the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) representatives on day-to-day coordination of contractors’ work activities
  • Ensure all subcontractor information, inclusive of insurance requirements, at any tier, has been submitted and approved
  • Track various pay items and oversee entries into the quantity book
  • Monitor quality and safety programs for contractor and construction management teams, along with the QAQC and Safety Managers
    • Prepare a project-specific Quality Plan
    • Establish and maintain the overall inspection coverage to oversee all work activity
  • Preparation of Field Orders when required, with the necessary backup documents, review, and approval of payment requests
  • Actively participates in progress meetings, roundtables, and all project management meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management Equivalent
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certifications or Professional Engineer Certification
  • 5+ years of inspection experience working on construction projects as either a field engineer or office engineer
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret contract documents and construction plans and specifications
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong time management skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively manage project team members. Must be very organized and have effective problem solving, leadership and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects/deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment
  • Team oriented working style and hands on approach to problem solving
  • Fluent with computer software including Microsoft Office
