Description

Bid Package #1 involved the construction of western portion of Runway 9C-27C including associated taxiways, site work and utilities. Demolition work included nearly 180,000 tons of pavement along with associated utilities, and buildings from the former runway in the area. Earthwork tasks encompassed grading and installation of almost five miles worth of drainage pipe. Electrical work also involved a six-mile extension of the common electrical duct bank for the airfield. Work to provide water service involved the installation of 4-, 12-, and 16-inch water mains as well as fire hydrant connections. More than 100,000 cubic yards of runway and taxiway paving, including grooving, was followed by site restoration, installation of fencing and service roads.
Bid Package #2 was the construction of the central and western portions of Runway 9C-27C including associated taxiways, site work and utilities. Demolition of several existing hangars, and existing utilities, was followed by earthwork—grading and drainage for the new runway and structures. Electrical work included the common electrical duct bank for the airfield. Paving, including grooving, was followed by site restoration and installation of fencing and service roads.
Bid Package #3 and Runway 4L-22R Rehabilitation included construction of a portion of Runway 9C-27C, a full rehabilitation of Runway 4L-22R, construction of associated taxiways, and rehabilitation of the North Airfield Lighting Control Vault.
Pavement and utility demolition were followed by earthwork, including grading and drainage. PCC and AC paving started after utility installation-airfield and FAA approach lighting and signage, the common electrical duct bank, and vault electrical. Pavement marking, fencing and site restoration concluded the project.
